'Industry': 3D and 2D early locomotives from Neath Abbey Ironworks Company
Harfords, Davies & Company. Ebbw Vale (Sirhowy Iron Works): 3D model of a 10 ½ inch locomotive, 'Industry', undated but presumed circa 1830. This locomotive was the first one to be built by the Neath Abbey Ironworks foundry with vertical rocking beams, and unusually included a fully sprung tender. The tall chimney was hinged in order for the locomotive to be able to go through tunnels. The virtual 3D model was constructed in 2018 at the National Library of Wales by using historic plans and a range of reference photographs of contemporary engines. West Glamorgan Archive Service acknowledges grant funding for this work of the Friends of the National Libraries.
