Description
Letter from Capt John Roberts of the BEESWING to his friend, Capt Brown of the KILLARNEY, after their safe arrival home. The BEESWING was bound from Pensacola, Florida, to Liverpool with a cargo of timber when she was stopped 140 miles west of Fastnet and sunk by gunfire from the German submarine U 58 on 2 May 1917. Five days later, the KILLARNEY, another Walmsley vessel, was stopped and sunk in the same area by U 21 under KapLt Otto Hersing. Both crews survived their ordeal.
