Description
A 19th century hand made cloth and silver bullion wire badge that was used by most police forces in Wales. Merit Class could be that of a Merit Class Constable or Merit Class Sergeant.
Sewn usually onto the lower part of a uniform tunic right sleeve, it indicated the officers rank. Merit Class was usually the upper limit that was achievable in a particular rank and was tied into an incremental pay scale structure. Approximately 3 inches wide.
Part of the Ross Mather Police Memorabilia of Wales Collection.
