Description

At the time of his death, Hugh Jones was the Captain of the steamship HEATHPARK. The ship was carrying a cargo of ore from Bilbao to Maryport when she was torpedoed in the Bay of Biscay by U 91 under the command of Alfred von Glasenapp on 5 October 1918. There were no survivors among the crew of 18. Captain Jones's body was the only one recovered from the sea and he was buried at Bilbao.

The photographs were brought to the attention of the U-Boat Project 1914-18 by Hugh Evans, Borth, who kindly allowed us to share them.
