Description

The 'Borough Guide' published by the Town Council and Edward J Burrows Co notes the opportunities for enthusiastic sea angler by way of sea-fishing. The chief varieties of fish caught in the bay were bass (from May to July) mullet (from June to September), gurnet (from May to August), mackerel (during July and August) and whiting (from September to March). The guide notes that is possible to obtain permission to join the trawlers that ply between Aberystwyth and New Quay making splendid hauls of plaice, brill, turbot and sole. The fishing boats plying from the harbour today focus on differing species today.
