came to the Turnpike Gate near Newport - Witness saw
the Prisoner there by the Door of the Turnpike House
they stopped a long time at the gate and heard some of
them say they were waiting for the Blackwood Men

TO PROVE That between Eleven and Twelve on Sunday
night 3rd November Prisoner Jones was at the head
of a Party of men at the New Inn about two and
a half miles from Pontypool and was armed with a
Dagger, that one of Jones's men took a Gun from the
Kitchen and fitted it with a Flint that Jones on being
applied to returned it said O'h never mind it shall be
returned, Jones ordered the Men out of the Kitchen saying
Now my Lads, light your pipes, let us be off - One of
Jones's Men said it was their intention to have attacked
the Lord Lieutenant on his return to Pontypool
He had been from Pontypool to Newport and back

TO PROVE That a party of Men came about eight AM
on Monday fourth November to Witness's House at
Cross-y-Cylog who pressed him to join them. Prisoner
Jones was with them and asked if Witness was
willing - Being answered to the contrary he ordered
the men to bring him along - At Malpas Prisoner
was at Aust's House conversing with him and drew
a Pistol from his Pocket and loaded it - Great numbers
of armed Men joined them before they reached Malpas
- At Malpas Turnpike Gate Prisoner ordered their
March into a Lane which leads into the Road to
Risca where their further progress was stopped by
intelligence from a collier that they had been Defeated
