Regina v Thomas Llewellin

John Hughes - I am a Collier - I live
at the Fleur de lis - I was at home
on Sunday the third of November instant.
Lewis Lewis was with me- I heard
a rumour that the Chartists were
going down to Newport- I said
to Lewis Lewis -possible they won't
come into the Houses for men-
I went out by my door - I saw a
great number of men crowded together-
This was about 9 0'Clock
I don't know any of them^ -They said
you must come along with us - I
did not see any weapons with them-
I went with them- I went with ^ them so far
as the Park -- Sir Charles Morgan 's
Park I met Lewis Lewis about two

or three hundred yards below my
House- He was not armed - He
then joined us - I cannot swear
that the Men I met were not armed-
they were armed - I did not see any
of the men go into the Houses as they
came down - I can swear I did
not see any of them go into the Houses-
On my way down I went into the Welsh
Oak and had two pints of Beer - A
great many more were in the Room -
I took no notice of any one in the Room-
Lewis Lewis was in the Room- I
went from my House to Gellygross - I
went on from Gellygross down the Tram
Road to Risca - It was about 11 or 12
o'clock when we reached Risca - I
saw a great body of Men at Risca - they
were armed- Some with Guns some with

Pikes- and other weapons - From
Risca I went to the Welsh Oak -
I had two pints of Beer there - Lewis
Lewis was with us - I have been a
Chartist - I have been sworn that I would

not disclose any thing relating to them-
I don't recollect any thing that passed
at the Welsh Oak - I saw Lewis
there- I saw John Jenkins there
- I saw Thomas Thomas there
they both live at Fleur de Lis-
They were with me- I staid at the
Welsh Oak about an hour - I
don't recollect any thing that passed
during that time - I did ^ not hear
any thing said about the Chartists-
I then left in Company with Lewis
Lewis About twenty of us or
more left the House at the time
I left it - We proceeded
down the Tram Road towards
Newport - A great many of
them were armed - I had a
little bit of a rod in my hand-
a wooden rod - I didn't see
any thing in Lewis Lewis' hand -
nor in Thomas Thomas' hand
nor John Jenkins - only an -
umbrella - I proceeded on to
the Park - There were a great
many men there - It was about
10 o'clock when I reached the
Park - A great many of the

Men I saw in the Park were armed -
with Guns pikes and other such weapons-
Lewis Lewis was with me all the time-
Whilst I was in the park I heard Guns
fired off- I saw John Frost there I heard
him tell the Men to walk on the Road
and not on the grass - Some of the
men took the Road accordingly - I
saw him above the Park - that is
before I came to the Park - I saw him
pass by me - He had a Red Cravat
round his neck - and a Pilot cloth
Coat - I also saw ^ the prisoner Thomas Llewellin
there - He had a mandrell in
his hand - He placed it upon
his shoulder - He was walking
by himself towards Newport - I
came on with the other men on
Monday morning so far as the Barn
at the top of Stow Hill when I ran
away - The mark of
