Criccieth - Best Heritage Initiative Award 2019.
Criccieth Town Council was delighted and honoured to be awarded the One Voice Wales’ Best Heritage Initiative 2019 award for its project to Commemorate Criccieth’s Contribution to the Great War. The project was in partnership with Ysgol Treferthyr, Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor, Criccieth Memorial Hall and the local community. Criccieth has a unique heritage in regards to the First World War. The Memorial Hall is a testament to 49 local individuals who fought and died, and many of the families to and descendants of these individuals still live in or near Criccieth today and have many stories and records. Criccieth was also home to David Lloyd George, Prime Minister during the First World War, and during his time in No 10 Downing Street many Welsh speakers from Criccieth worked there and many of their families and descendants still live in Criccieth and the area today. The Town Council benefits enormously from being a member of One Voice Wales, which is the main representative body for community and town councils in Wales. One Voice Wales ensures a strong voice to represent the interests of councils and offers a range of quality services to support their work. By being a member the Town Council is able to benefit from legal advice, advice on how to improve services, training, policy matters, information in a monthly newsletter and also attendance at conferences which provide networking opportunities and sharing good practice in the sector. In March 2019 One Voice Wales’s Innovative Practice Conference was attended by Cllr Robert Cadwalader and Clerk Catrin Jones and a presentation on “Commemorating Criccieth’s Contribution” was given by the Project Manager Ffion Gwyn and the Clerk.
