Description

Artist Pauline Evans produced this bold and structured sketch with a view to using the design for a lino-cut print. She was working using the reduction process which requires an artist to remove material in a number of stages so that at each stage a new colour can be added. This is both a time consuming and delicate process and each work of art can take hours to achieve. At this stage Pauline has removed just the areas that she wants to remain white. Once removed there is no going back, as material can not be re-added once taken away. She will then print using the lightest colours first, removing more material for the next colour and so on until she has finished.
