Description
Mike Tan, a Malaysian Chinese civil engineer and karate master, arrived in Cardiff in 1974 to study civil engineering. Over a distinguished 30-year career, he contributed to transformative infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Grangetown Viaduct and Butetown Tunnels.
Beyond his engineering achievements, Mike is a pillar of the Welsh karate community. Celebrating his 50th anniversary as a karate instructor in Wales, he has trained thousands of students and developed over 200 black belts. His influence extends internationally, having represented Wales as a judge and referee at Welsh, British, and European levels. For six years, he also served as the chair of the Welsh Karate Governing Body, dedicating his life to the art and community of karate in Wales.
