Description

These are pages 178 and 179 of the printed report Welsh in Education and Life, published by the Department Committee appointed by the President of the Board of Education to inquire into the position of the Welsh Language in 1927. These sections of the conclusion draw attention to the importance of the traditional Welsh language press and periodicals in keeping the language alive, and the valuable role of the men who distributed them. There is "no excuse for looking over the border for guidance" but Welsh publishing needs to look to reform in Welsh schools to secure its future. Welsh books have to compete with cheap English novels.
