Evan Samuel Rees marked in photograph. Note on the back reads:

“Palenstine 7/7/17
A little drill with the gas helmet which we have in our possession in case the Turks might go a little desperate & use asphyxiating gases. & many say it is not a very “healthy” task walking about with ??? things on, ‘But prevention is better than the cure & we don’t mind going through a little unpleasantness.”

Evan Samuel Rees joined the army at 19 and served in the Middle East during the First World War. Medal no.1669, PTE E. S. Rees with the R.A.M.C (Royal Army Medical Corps). He survived the WW1 and returned to live at home in the Swansea area.
