Cardiff Searchlight Tattoo 1973
The 1973 programme continued to include some of the Tattoo’s popular and traditional components whilst adding several new displays. These included the Household Cavalry Musical Ride and Cutlass Drill, presented by the Royal Navy. The 1st Battalion, Welsh Guards returned and provided the assaulting infantry in the a modern battle scene as well as the participating in the Eckersberg Musical Fantasy , “The Battle of Waterloo” which featured both the Massed Bands and Corps of Drums. The Royal Artillery Motor Cycles from 1968 returned to the arena along with the contribution of the Royal Military Police who rode in on both motor cycles and horseback. The 1st Royal Welch Fusiliers, the Royal Regiment of Wales and the 1st Queen’s Dragoon Guards returned as well as the popular display involving the Royal Air Force police dogs. The searchlights were operated by the Royal Air Force from St. Athen. The reserve army also helped administer the Tattoo the Corps of Drums, TAVR Bands and the Regimental Colours all appear in the arena as well.
