Description

Glyn Bran farmhouse, Cwmbran.

The phrase ‘vernacular architecture’ was first used in Volume 1 of Monmouthshire Houses.

Vernacular architecture is a vital aspect of the study of Welsh homes. These houses were built not by architects but by local people out of local materials, and as a response to the local climate.

They are rare survivals. Without Cyril Fox’s contribution, they would be rarer still.
