Ingredients
a thick slice of bread
cold buttermilk
Method 1.
Toast a thick slice of bread and break it into a bowl.
Pour cold buttermilk over it and allow to steep for about an hour before serving.

Method 2.
Toast a thick slice of bread, break it into a bowl and pour cold buttermilk over it.
Cover the bowl with a plate or a saucer and put it in a warm oven.
Allow the toast to take in the buttermilk before serving.

Although served only during very hot spells in some districts, it was a dish eaten regularly for supper all through the summer in some areas. It would be also carried out in ‘cans’ and served as a snack to the harvesters out on the fields, e.g. Dyffryn Ardudwy, Merioneth.
