Description

Peace and Goodwill Message Poster for 1986. Themes: opposition to nuclear weapons, Wales first country in Western Europe to declare itself a nuclear-free country, government of the world are dissipating their wealth by stockpiling nuclear arms instead of overcoming hunger, prayer for love where there is enmity, hope that we offer a glimmer of hope to the world, International Year of Peace. Quote: "The United Nations has declared that amassing arms, particularly nuclear arms is much more a threat to the future of mankind than it is a defence. In 1982 all Welsh County Councils announced their opposition to having nuclear armaments on their soil. Wales was thus the first in Western Europe to declare itself a nuclear-free country. We the voice of the youth of Wales speak out against these destructive weapons…. No nation’s future can be built on oppression and fear. We are concerned that the governments of the world are dissipating their wealth by stockpiling nuclear arms. The money being wasted in this way would be enough to overcome worldwide problems of hunger and need.”
