Description

This article from the South Wales Echo discuses the proposed closure of Clydach Street Day Centre, "which has been providing elderly people with hot meals for decades". The article is accompanied by a photograph by Mark Fraser with the day centre in the background and the caption: "MEETING PLACE Diane Rees with centre users Mervile Arnold, 76, Hazel Ball, 60, and Alec Manfield, 87".

The day centre was moved to Worcester Court in Holmesdale Street, Grangetown. Clydach Street Day Centre was also the home of Grangetown Community Concern, a group run by volunteers, which was set up as an umbrella group for other voluntary organisations to provide and encourage services for all age groups, with a particular focus on older people. It was closed in November 2003 and Grangetown Community Concern moved to temporary premises on Penarth Road. The building in Clydach Street had previously housed YMCA and subsequently became a Muslim Cultural Centre.
