Description

Cardiff Municipal Musical Society provided musical theatre programmes for children, older people and those with disabilities. The Society existed from 1943 to 1993. They were charged with preparing and putting on performances for the public and providing opportunities for those who love drama.

The Society had showcased a variety of performances in their time and so had printed many theatre programme booklets for their productions.

This item is a programme for 'Brigadoon', which was performed at the New Theatre in Cardiff between the 8-13 March 1971.

The programme includes:
- A list of future performances at the New Theatre including the Royal Ballet and 'The Merry Wives of Windsor', and details of how to subscribe to the Society's newsletter;
- A list of the Society’s leaders, Alderman T E Merrells (Lord Mayor of Cardiff), H Ferguson Jones and Aubrey H Griffiths;
- A message from the Chairman of the Operatic Section which describes the 27th annual production featured in this booklet, and a list of previous productions including 'The Mikado', 'Rose Marie' and 'Oklahoma';
- A synopsis of the production;
- A list of cast and crew, including a list of characters, those working behind the scenes and members of the chorus;
- A summary of the scenes within the production and the musical numbers that correspond with them including 'Waiting for my Dearie', 'Almost Like Being in Love' and 'The Heather on the Hill';
- The Society's list of patrons and friends.
