I don't really understand this. If it's a Welsh coal mine, why is it in Kentucky? Who took the picture and when?

Thank you for your comment, this item forms part of a larger story that looks at Welsh emigration [http://peoplescollectionwales.co.uk/Story/199-working-abroad---welsh-emigration]. The skills of Welsh miners led to them being recruited by foreign mining companies. Welsh miners were found in large communities in the coalfields of Australia and America. The image shows welsh miners who emigrated from Wales to work in a coal mine in Kentucky. We are not sure of the date of the picture, but it would be sometime around 1880s or the 1890s.
